Hong Kong & Macau – Day 5

The much awaited Magic of Disney was finally going to be here. It was our last day in Hong Kong and we also had an 8 PM flight to catch. We checked out early from the hotel and took the train to Sunny Bay station from where we boarded the Disney Land resort line. After a few minutes ride, we finally arrived to the Magical land of Disney. It was almost an instantaneous turn on of all the wonderful memories from my childhood. The different shows, the movies, the experiences all coming back while standing at the entrance. The tickets were about $HK499 per person. Since we were hoping to go to the airport directly, we had to check in our bags at the luggage deposit counter. The charges were approximately $HK60-90 for each piece of luggage. The charges were quite high and since we were left with no choice, we decided to check them in anyway.

Once you enter the park, you will see the Main Street USA lined up with several shops and galleries on either sides. And since it was almost the winters, they had already begun decorations of the huge Christmas tree in the courtyard along with Main Street. Disney land Hong Kong is one of the smallest Disneyland parks in the world however if it’s your first experience, you will not be disappointed. The rides were quite few in numbers but we were not really keen on taking them. We were more excited about attending the shows and the Flight of Fantasy parade. Out of the total 7 lands—Adventureland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, Toy Story Land, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland and Main Street, U.S.A. We skipped Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Point since we fell short of time. We managed to view the Lion King Show and the Philarmagic 3D show. But the best part of the experience was watching the Flight of Fantasy parade and experiencing all Disney characters coming to life. The wait times were quite long since it was a Sunday but we didn’t mind. I would recommend planning the visit to each of the lands in a manner that you don’t lose the opportunity to use the FASTPASS. There are only two attractions where the FASTPASS maybe used at this time – Winnie the Pooh Story and Space Mountain. While we used it in the latter, we couldn’t use it for Winnie the Pooh Story since it already had reached maximum visitors. We also did a few other rides such as the jungle river cruise, Tarzans tree house and raft, It’s a small world, visited the Sleeping Beauty Castle, Buzz Light Years Astro Blazer. Disneyland experience turned out to be the highlight of the trip for me while Ocean Park was the highlight for my wife. We wrapped up our trip by shopping for souvenirs for our lil’ nephews back in India and for ourselves. We totally lost track of time and it was already 6 PM. We decided to give the train ride to the airport a miss and instead took a taxi. The taxi cost us $HK100 but made sure we reached in 20 minutes.

My wife n I have been on numerous trips in India and abroad recently but Hong Kong and Macau definitely top the list. With a heavy heart and loads of memories, we bid adieu to the Asia’s world city.
