Hong Kong & Macau.. an action packed vacation on a tight schedule… One of the best destinations to visit.. After last year’s vacation to Bali, wifey had only one condition… we visit some place cold.. the weather was at its best all throughout the trip. We did a 4 nights & 5 day trip covering most of Hong Kong and Macau. Definitely not a budget trip and not for anyone who hopes for a relaxing holiday. Ours was a tight packed itinerary and something definitely not for the ones who are slow on their feet.
Hong Kong as a destination offers a lot for everyone across all age groups. We planned our travel a few months in advance due to which we ensured we didn’t burn a hole with the every rising air fare.
We took the Air Asia early morning flight from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong and landed around 11am local time. The immigration process was smooth and we took the airport express train to Hong Kong station. They have multiple options for tickets, we took the single journey family ticket which cost us $HK160 instead of the return family which costs $HK360 .. a bit more than twice.. The counter for the airport express tickets are soon after you exit after collecting your checked in baggage. The personnel at the counter are friendly and will help you choose the correct ticket. The train journey was quick.. took bout 25 min to HK station. Pick up the free maps and tourist brochures at the airport. Will be of a great help.
Staying at one of the reputed hotels in HK island has its advantages and that’s the free shuttle that operates once every 20 minutes. We utilized this to the full extent. We were staying at the IBIS HK & Sheung Wan Hotel which is ’bout a quick 5 min drive from the HK station or 15 minutes by the local tram. The trams would stop right in front of the hotel. The Macau ferry terminal is also a quick 5-10 min walk from the hotel so the location was really ideal for us. You can read about my hotel review here. We wanted to make sure we get to cover most places on our itinerary so we decided to start early from the hotel. We checked in around noon and were out after a quick shower. Am going to break this post into a day wise detail so it’s easier on the browser 😉 and the pictures load faster.
