Kuala Lumpur & Around – Gudu Gudu Minchu

The kind of monsoons in Malaysia is something that i have never experienced before. I stayed around the western ghats in India for most part of my life and its crazy rainfall but the kind of monsoons that you experience here makes the ones in India seem like a trickle. I’ve rarely seen lightning strike when i was in Bangalore or it would seem like its struck at a very far distance. Here its the opposite. Its just loud thunder with flashes of light every few seconds. Its so frequent and scary that it delivers a shiver down your spine. The highways around the city are mostly elevated due to which you have a clear view of the horizon at a distance so its not very uncommon to see lightning strike every few seconds at a distance. Driving can be a nightmare.

I have always been fascinated with the photographs of the lightning strikes and wondered how does one capture it precisely at the right moment. Googled around and found quite a number of interesting articles. Unfortunately all of them require a tripod ( which i left back in India ) and a remote shutter release cable ( which i don’t have ). So i tried my hand at capturing one manually and Here’s the finished product 🙂 I am sure this one could have been better.  It definitely is not as easy as the tutorials and definitely requires a lot of patience ( which i lack for sure 😉 ). Oh and before you start to wonder what i meant by Gudu Gudu Minchu…. It means Thunder & Lightning in Konkani (my native language).

Kuala Lumpur & Around – Jalan Alor

One of the really active streets of KL when it comes to night life and awesome street food is Jalan Alor. Almost in the heart of the famous Bukit Bintang and close proximity to Changkat, Jalan Alor is a treat for sea food lovers. There’s a whole bunch of restaurants offering street side seating with awesome food to tickle all the senses and artists entertaining us with foot tapping music. I would recommend a good weekend at the famous pubs at Changkat and then a hearty meal at Jalan Alor. It will definitely be a lovely end to an awesome evening.

Kuala Lumpur & Around – Bird Park

One of the many must do activities in KL is definitely not to miss a visit to the worlds largest free flight walk in aviary, The KL Bird Park.  It definitely gaurantees a fun time for kids if its a first time experience for them. Its good to walk around the park with plenty of peacocks and other birds walking about freely inches away from you. While we had previously visited the bird park at Bali, we were slightly disappointed with the ones in KL.. the place definitely needs to be maintained well. You can get more info bout the park here.

Kuala Lumpur & Around – O, Sunlight

“Ô, Sunlight! The most precious gold to be found on Earth.” – Roman Payne

The one thing we absolutely love about the place where we stay is the stunning view of the sun set every evening from the balcony of our house. Call it the perks of staying in a high rise ( Ofcourse its pricey 😉 ) the golden hue it sets into our living room every evening is truly amazing.

Kuala Lumpur & Around – KLCC Aquaria

Another one of the places we covered in the initial few days of our stay in KL was the Aquaria at KLCC Convention Centre. Its quite a place to relax and enjoy the various marine life. The RM50 entrance fee is quite reasonable however wish there were much more variety. I am sure it cant be compared to the ones in Singapore or Hong Kong ( I haven’t been to either of the two, but word of mouth from folks who have 😉 ). Its a good place to while away a couple of hours. You can find a not so cheap souvenir shop at the exit. They have various shows daily at different times. We really enjoyed the Sting Ray feeding session. The sights of the marine life are quite mesmerizing. The ones which stole the show for us were the Sting Rays, Giant Turtles, Sharks, Clown fish, Sea Horses and the Killer Piranha. We missed the Piranha feeding session. But hope to see that during another visit.

Clown Fish

Think this was the Nurse shark

An extremely tiny frog… don’t quite remember the name.
